Recovery Yoga

Nicole Sansone will be offering the studio at Mountain Breeze Yoga in Windham for group meditation, sound sessions, restorative yoga and/or talks to create a clean space in our community for those suffering through the darkness of addiction. She believes that if we can help one person find their higher power, then that person maybe can help one more and hopefully together we can help raise the vibrations of our entire community.

Her own journey with depression, drugs and alcohol took many years to overcome. It wasn’t just one technique or group that helped her through, it was a combination of many tools and teachings as well as the community she found through the practice of yoga.
She will offer a gentle yoga practice either ending with a sound meditation or guided meditation. The practice of yoga is not just the exercises that most people think of when they hear that word. The word yoga literally means “union” or to “yoke” to merge with our higher power or source energy. It is a discipline that helps us improve or develop our inherent power in a balanced way.
Meditation can provide a person in recovery with numerous psychological and physical benefits, such as anxiety relief, decreased blood pressure, stress management, immune system enhancement, and better sleep- just to name a few.
It is not always easy to to start a meditation practice so being guided in the beginning with imagery is one helpful tool. The use of instruments such as Himalayan singing bowls, chimes and gongs to create vibrational healing sounds that draw the listener into a relaxed, meditative state are also known to offer the same benefits as meditation but require less discipline as they are a passive practice.
